When people think about outdoor spaces, relaxation and leisure often come to mind. But more recently, there has been a noticeable shift in how these spaces are being used. Outdoor areas are no longer just for occasional comfort; they are becoming more functional, more intentional, and in some cases, an extension of everyday work life. This was exactly the direction for one of our recent projects in Ibadan, Nigeria, where the goal was to create not just a visually appealing space, but a fully functional outdoor office designed for meetings.

The client approached us with a clear and interesting requirement. They wanted an outdoor office space that could comfortably accommodate meetings while still maintaining a calm and open atmosphere. It was important that the space felt professional enough for work, yet relaxed enough to take advantage of the outdoor environment. This meant we had to carefully balance structure, comfort, and design to create a space that people would actually enjoy using for extended periods.
To achieve this, we proposed a poolside pergola setup, designed with metal cladding and a louvred structure. While the client already had a strong vision for a unique office experience outside the traditional indoor setting, the pergola concept was our recommendation as it offered the perfect blend of functionality and style. A pergola provides structure and shade without making the space feel enclosed, allowing for proper airflow and a comfortable environment throughout the day. The use of metal cladding and louvres not only enhanced durability but also gave the space a modern and refined finish, making it suitable for both work and relaxation.
Like many projects, this one came with its own challenges. Working with out-of-state contractors and suppliers introduced some delays, particularly in coordination and logistics. Managing timelines across different locations required flexibility and constant communication. However, maintaining our internal project timelines is something we prioritise on every job. Despite these external setbacks, we remained focused on problem-solving, adjusting where necessary, and ensuring that the quality of work was never compromised.

Originally, the project was projected to take 26 days, but we successfully delivered it in just 13 days. This was made possible through proper planning, efficient execution, and a team that remained committed to meeting expectations. More importantly, we delivered exactly what was promised: a functional, well-designed outdoor office space that aligns perfectly with the client’s needs.
This project reflects our overall approach to outdoor design. We do not just focus on how a space looks; we focus on how it works. Every project is tailored to suit the client’s lifestyle, combining practicality with thoughtful design to create spaces that are both durable and enjoyable. From concept to completion, our goal is always to ensure that every outdoor space we deliver is intentional, functional, and built to last.

Outdoor spaces are evolving, and this project in Ibadan is a clear example of how they can be transformed into something more purposeful. Whether it is for relaxation, hosting, or even work, the right design can completely redefine how a space is used. And with the right expertise, those ideas can be brought to life seamlessly.
